Netherlands round-up: Vitesse draw a blank

SBV Vitesse had to settle for a goalless draw with SC Heerenveen on Saturday.

SBV Vitesse had to settle for a goalless draw against SC Heerenveen despite hitting the bar twice today.

Heerenveen ride their luck
Heerenveen rode their luck at the Gelredome but emerged with a share of the points as their goal led a charmed life. Dejan Stefanovic rattled the woodwork in the 63rd minute and, eight minutes later, Mohammadou Diarra missed out on the opener when his stinging drive also rebounded back to safety. Heerenveen remain in fourth, one point and a place above Vitesse.

Sektioui hat-trick
A Tarik Sektioui hat-trick for Willem II knocked what could prove the penultimate nail in SC Fortuna Sittard's Eredivisie coffin. The 3-0 defeat in Tilburg means that losing against FC Twente next Saturday will condemn the basement side to relegation.

Joy for De Graafschap
De Graafschap moved out of the relegation play-off zone with a 3-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk. Ilja van Leerdam hit the opener in the 18th minute to put the home side on their way to only a ninth win of the season. Hans van der Haar made it two 12 minutes after the break and, although Rick Hoogendorp pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 79th minute, Dennis Schulp sealed the victory as the game drew to a close.

Goalless in Kerkrade
Ivan Vicelic's 77th-minute sending off for Roda JC was the one moment of interest in an otherwise dour 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar. Vicelic was red carded after reacting angrily to a late Olaf Lindenbergh challenge, pushing the AZ defender, who was booked for his involvement, to the ground.
