Asamoah blow for Schalke

FC Schalke 04's Gerald Asamoah has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

FC Schalke 04 forward Gerald Asamoah has suffered a torn muscle in his right thigh and will be unable to play for his club again this season.

World Cup hopes
The news is a blow to Schalke's hopes of finishing in the top three of the 1. Bundesliga and qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League. The German international still has a small hope of making the country's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, as doctors think there is a chance he might be fit before the tournament begins on 31 May.

Carried off
The 23-year-old Ghanaian-born player had to be carried off on a stretcher after 23 minutes during Schalke’s 2-0 win over Hamburger SV on Saturday.
