Switzerland round-up: Lugano take advantage of Grasshoppers' slip

FC Lugano secured a place in next year's UEFA Cup as the race to finish second hotted up.

FC Lugano moved clear of Grasshopper-Club in the race to finish second behind FC Basel in the Swiss first division with a 2-0 win against FC Sion tonight.

Chapuisat opener
Rivals Grasshoppers could only draw 1-1 with FC Zürich after Luca Iodice's second-half goal cancelled out Stéphane Chapuisat's 38th-minute opener.

Lugano four clear
The results mean that second-placed Lugano are certain of a place in next season's UEFA Cup, lying four points clear of third-placed Grasshoppers with three games left to play. Servette FC are a further four points behind in fourth place.

European issues
The sides who finish second and third both qualify for the UEFA Cup. Grasshoppers could also secure qualfication by beating the newly-crowned champions in the Swiss Cup final on 12 May.
