FC Basel's title party did not go according to plan tonight as FC St. Gallen won 2-1 at the Saint Jakob stadium.

Gane spoils the party
Over 33,000 fans turned out to welcome the championship trophy back to Basel for the first time in 22 years - but saw Ionel Gane steal the points for the visitors. The Romanian international hit his 15th goal of the season in the second half after Scott Chipperfield had cancelled out Alex Tachie-Mensah's sixth-minute opener for St. Gallen.

Servette stay ahead
Basel clinched the Nationalliga A title on Wednesday when they beat BSC Young Boys. Today, Young Boys drew 0-0 at Servette FC in a meeting of the teams in fifth and fourth places. The Geneva club have a four-point lead on Young Boys and as such a good chance of qualifying for the UEFA Cup.
