Switzerland round-up: Grasshoppers close on Lugano

Grasshopper-Club beat FC Lugano 2-1 to close the gap on the second-placed side to just one point.

Grasshopper-Club came from behind to beat FC Lugano 2-1 in the Swiss Nationalliga on Sunday, and in doing so closed the gap on the second-placed side to just one point.

Race for second
With FC Basel crowned champions last weekend the race is now on for runners-up in the league although both second and third place bring UEFA Cup football next season.

Late winner
Lugano took the lead through Joel Magnin in the 63rd minute, but Grasshoppers' Uruguayan midfielder Richard Nunez levelled the scores ten minutes later. Ricardo Cabanas scored the winner for the home side in the closing minutes. In the day's other game FC Sion and FC Zürich played out a 1-1 draw.
