Atlético arrest Barça advance

FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid have joined a cluster of teams at the top in Spain.

FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid joined a cluster of teams on seven points atop the Primera División table after playing out a tense draw at the Vicente Calderón on Sunday.

Barça draw
Giovanni van Bronckhorst opened the scoring for the visitors after seeing an earlier effort disallowed. The Dutch international rifled a fierce shot beneath the crossbar on 22 minutes, before Atlético gained a share of the spoils through Fernando Torres's second-half equaliser - a fine hooked finish which flew past Víctor Valdés and in off the crossbar.

Moreno goals
The two sides are joined on seven points by Real Zaragoza after they beat Albacete Balompié 4-3 with Javi Moreno netting twice. Savio Bortolini and David Vílla were also on target for the home side.

Luque late show
RC Deportivo La Coruña came from behind as they beat Athletic Club de Bilbao 2-1 at San Mamés. Andoni Iraloa put the home side ahead on 55 minutes but Depor quickly equalised through Walter Pandiani and Albert Luque handed the visitors their first win of the season in injury time as they moved up to tenth.

Wanchope winner
Málaga CF new boy Paulo Wanchope celebrated his debut by heading the winning goal ten minutes from time at RCD Mallorca. Málaga were leading for much of the game after Edgar Carvalho had opened the scoring with a delicate chip on 24 minutes, but when Andrija Delibasic levelled on 70 minutes after a goalmouth scramble, it looked like the opportunity to gain their first win of the season had been lost until Wanchope's timely intervention.

Baptista double
CD Numancia also recorded their first victory of the season with a 1-0 win at fellow Primera División newcomers Getafe CF, Julio Pineda scoring the only goal of the game. Meanwhile, the other promoted side, Levante UD, remain without a point after losing 3-0 against Sevilla FC. Julio Baptista scored twice as Sevilla moved to seventh. Finally, Real Racing Club de Santander collected their first point with a 1-1 draw against Villarreal CF.
