Yugoslavia round-up: Crvena Zvezda take second

FK Crvena Zvezda secured a place in next season's UEFA Cup with a 1-1 draw against FK Zeta.

FK Crvena Zvezda secured a place in next season's UEFA Cup with a 1-1 draw against FK Zeta today.

One point enough
A point was enough to see the Belgrade side take the runners-up slot in the Prva Savezna Liga and take a place in the UEFA Cup and make up for losing out to local rivals FK Partizan in the title race.

Missed opportunities
The 2000/01 champions went ahead through Branko Jelic after just eight minutes and striker Mihajlo Pjanovic missed a host of chances to put the game beyond Zeta before he was made to pay for his profligacy when Malesija Vojvoda scored a 76th-minute equaliser.

Sartid poised for third
FK Sartid look the most likely side to end the season in third place after they maintained the position with a 2-1 win against FK Zemun. Nenad Mirosavljevic (four) and Sasa Antunovic (54) were on the scoresheet for Sartid while Nenad Milijas (38) struck for Zemun, who are precariously placed one place above the relegation zone with two matches to play.

Obilic maintain pressure
Fourth-placed FK Obilic kept up the pressure with a 2-1 success at already-relegated FK Radnicki Kragujevac to stay within two points of Sartid. The match marked Obilic coach Goran Zivadinovic's last home match before he takes over as coach of the Ghana national team.

Cukaricki thwarted
At the bottom of the table, FK Mladost Lucani's survival hopes were dented after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at sixth-placed OFK Beograd. Similarly, FK Cukaricki's attempts to claw they way out of the drop zone were thwarted by a 2-1 defeat at home against FK Zeleznik.

Tense in Novi Sad
A tense match between another two relegation-threatened teams, FK Vojvodina and FK Hajduk Kula, ended in a goalless draw. Basement club FK Mladost Apatin slumped to their 17th defeat of the season after FK Sutjeska completed a 1-0 victory over the second division-bound side.
