Keita banned after Caçapa foul

RC Strasbourg defender Sidi Keita has received a lengthy ban for his dangerous tackle on Claudio Caçapa.

RC Strasbourg defender Sidi Keita will not play again until the new year after being banned for a tackle on Olympique Lyonnais defender Claudio Caçapa.

Two-month ban
The 19-year-old's challenge in a Ligue 1 match on 30 October caused the Brazilian defender to suffer a serious knee injury. The French Professional League's disciplinary committee has decided to ban the player until 4 January, the period that Caçapa is expected to be out of action. Strasbourg have said they will not appeal against the decision.

Red card
It means Keita, who was shown a straight red card in the game which Lyon went on to win 1-0, will not be able to play again until the French Cup matches that are scheduled for 8/9 January. It was the Malian defender's third start for his club and he later apologised to Caçapa, who publicly condemned the tackle as did Strasbourg coach Jacky Duguépéroux.
