Jorge Costa puts Porto top

By Onofre Costa

FC Porto captain Jorge Costa scored and was then sent off as the Portuguese champions returned to the top of the SuperLiga after holding on for a 1-0 win away to Vitória FC in Setúbal.

Diego returns
Porto coach Víctor Fernández welcomed back Diego from injury and partnered Hélder Postiga and Ricardo Quaresma in attack in place of the suspended Benni McCarthy and Derlei. But it was defender Jorge Costa who broke the deadlock when he headed in Diego's corner from the left on 25 minutes.

Seventh win
The former Portuguese international was then dismissed for a second bookable offence shortly before half-time, but despite being down to ten men for the entire second half, Porto were able to hold on for their seventh league win of the season.

Clear leaders
After 12 rounds, they lead the SuperLiga by two points from Boavista FC who beat SC Beira-Mar 3-0 on Friday. SL Benfica, who lost 1-0 at UD Leiria on Sunday, are a point further back in third, level with SC Braga on 22 points. Vitória dropped to seventh, level with CS Marítimo on 20 points, one behind fifth-placed Sporting Clube de Portugal.
