Figo's finest footballers

Real Madrid CF winger Luís Figo has selected his Team of the Year 2004.
Real Madrid CF winger and former Portuguese international Luís Figo selects his Team of the Year 2004. You can vote for the users' Team of the Year until Monday.

Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF and Spain)
He is so consistent and dependable. Madrid's rock, he's an acrobat who has lightning reflexes and will only get better.

Paulo Ferreira (Chelsea FC and Portugal)
He is showing for Chelsea the form which helped take Porto to the [UEFA] Champions League title. He had a mixed [UEFA] EURO 2004™ but Paulo Ferreira is now showing that José Mourinho played a master-stroke by signing him.

Gianluca Zambrotta (Juventus FC and Italy)
He is a great source of strength for Juventus and was one of their best players last year during an otherwise disappointing season. He has made the position his own for Italy.

Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea FC and Portugal)
I rate him one of the best, if not the best, central defenders in the world. He is so solid and also a great passer of the ball.

Paolo Maldini (AC Milan)
One of the true greats. I think Italy may have missed him last summer. He has set the standards for others to follow.

Right midfield
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United FC and Portugal)
A great talent, he showed some of it during EURO 2004™. But I think there is still a great deal more to come from him. He has the potential to be one of the greatest players ever.

Central midfield
Maniche (FC Porto and Portugal)
One of Portugal's and Porto's stars. His goals were so vital for us during EURO 2004™. He is our heart and inspiration.

Left midfield
Vicente Rodríguez (Valencia CF and Spain)
He enjoyed one of his best seasons for his club, scoring vital goals and was instrumental in their winning the UEFA Cup.

Attacking midfield
Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona and Brazil)
What can you say about this player? His instinctive skills are a joy for other players to watch. The danger is, of course, that you get distracted! He also always plays with a smile on his face.

Thierry Henry (Arsenal FC and France)
He combines so many roles into one. He creates, he provides, he scores. The ultimate player.

Ruud van Nistelrooij (Manchester United FC and Netherlands)
The goal machine. He has had a series of phenomenal seasons, a great finisher.

José Mourinho (ex-FC Porto, Chelsea FC)
He has shown how good he is and now at Chelsea, where he is under great pressure, he is showing the potential for more success. A winner.
