Celtic snap up Icelandic teens

Celtic FC have signed KR Reykjavík duo Theodor Elmar Bjarnason and Kjartan Henry Finnbogason.
Celtic FC have signed two teenagers from Icelandic side KR Reykjavík. Midfield player Theodor Elmar Bjarnason and striker Kjartan Henry Finnbogason have agreed two-and-a-half year deals with the Scottish champions.

Celtic appeal
Bjarnason, 17, said: "I have been on trial with quite a few clubs and Brøndby [IF], [SC] Heerenveen, Feyenoord and Stoke [City FC] all offered me a contract. But after coming to Celtic I had made up my mind where I wanted to go."

Fees to pay
Celtic are likely to have to pay a fee for the 18-year-old Finnbogason - who has recently been on on trial with FC Girondins de Bordeaux and has been capped for Iceland at Under-21 level - as he still has a year of his contract to run. There will also be compensation to pay for Bjarnason, who has played for his national U19 side, even though his deal ended this season.

O'Neill 'delighted'
Manager Martin O'Neill said: "I am delighted to have the two lads on board. We know all about them now and both have very good potential, so we're hopeful they'll do well. I know there's been a lot of interest in them and I'm really pleased that they are coming to Celtic."
