Defender Roman Sharonov has left FC Rubin Kazan to join Russian Premier League newcomers FC Terek Grozny on a two-year contract. Capped seven times by Russia, the former FC Lokomotiv Moskva player operated in midfield last season for Rubin. Staying in Russia, FC Rostov have completed their first signings of the year, bringing in defender Nikolai Olenikov and goalkeeper Andrei Chichkin on free transfers from relegated FC Rotor Volgograd.
In Turkey, Brazilian defender Ronaldo Guiaro's transfer to Konyaspor from Besiktas JK has collapsed. The 30-year-old has returned to his former club because of a financial dispute but is unlikely to be there for long. The Besiktas director of football, Kivanç Oktay, said: "He demanded more money from us, therefore the move fell through."
Galatasaray SK's out-of-favour defender Suat Usta has joined Konyaspor. The 23-year-old, a former Turkish Under-21 international, has not played for the Istanbul club this season. Malatyaspor, meanwhile, have cancelled the contract of striker Atilla Birlik by mutual consent, while signing goalkeeper Taylan Aydogan on a three-and-a-half year contract from Dutch side Roda JC.
Sakaryaspor have also been busy, signing FC Brussels' 22-year-old Rwandan forward Saïd Makasi on a three-year contract and also goalkeeper Senol Karagöl on a 12-month deal from BB Ankaraspor.
Trabzonspor have signed defender Özgür Bayer from Denizlispor on a three-and-a-half year contract while loaning two promising young players to second division sides. Striker Emre Aygün, 19 has joined Yimpas Yozgatspor while 20-year-old Selim Akbulut will spend the rest of the season with Bursaspor. Denizlispor, meanwhile, have recruited two Altay GK players, with midfield player Fatih Egedik penning a three-and-a-half year deal and 20-year-old goalkeeper Bulut Basmaz signing for four and a half years.
Elsewhere, MKE Ankaragücü have signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Serkan Kirintili from Adanaspor AS, and BB Ankaraspor have captured the Akçaabat Sebatspor midfield player Erman Özgür on a three-and-a-half year deal. Finally in Turkey, Belgian left-winger Filip Daems had cancelled his contract with Gençlerbirligi SK and is expected to join Germany's VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In France, AS Monaco FC have loaned midfield player Jimmy Juan to English club Ipswich Town FC until the summer. The 21-year-old Juan, a produce of the principality club's youth system, has played only three times this season for Monaco and should see more first-team action with promotion-chasing Ipswich.
One player moving to France on loan, meanwhile, is Servette FC's Portuguese midfield anchorman, Nuno Miguel Da Cunha. With the Geneva-based club under threat of bankruptcy, he has joined Ligue 2 side Stade Brestois for the rest of the season.
Another French side, AS Saint-Etienne, have signed Senegalese striker Lamine Sakho from Olympique de Marseille on a three-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee. Sakho spent 2003/04 on loan in England with Leeds United AFC, but there sustained a serious knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines throughout the current campaign. St Etienne have also handed full-back Vincent Hognon a new contract until 2007.
Finally to the Netherlands where FC Groningen have signed central defender Gibril Sankoh for an undisclosed fee from second division side Stormvogels/Telstar. The 21-year-old, who has signed a contract until summer 2008, arrived in the Netherlands in 2000 as a refugee from Sierra Leone.
