Gerrard leads Liverpool through

Steven Gerrard scored the only goal at Watford FC as Liverpool FC progressed to the English League Cup final.
Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard secured his side's place in the English League Cup final, scoring the only goal of the semi-final second leg at Watford FC to earn a 2-0 aggregate victory.

Second winner
The English international midfielder, whose solitary strike had divided the sides a fortnight ago, repeated the feat tonight with 13 minutes left. Gerrard collected a loose ball in midfield and drove forward to the edge of the penalty area before firing a low shot into the corner of the net to seal his team's progress.

Deflected effort
In a game of few chances, Fernando Morientes had Liverpool's best opening before the goal, but his effort was deflected wide. Heidar Helguson was the home side's biggest scoring threat, but largely failed to trouble a solid Liverpool defence.

Wednesday's semi-final
Liverpool will play the winners of Wednesday's second semi-final second leg, between Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 27 February. The first leg ended goalless.
