R. Standard de Liège and KRC Genk will play off for a UEFA Cup place next season after finishing the season level on 70 points.
Liège started the final day of the season on Saturday third in the table with a two-point lead over Genk, but could only draw 1-1 at already relegated KV Oostende. Cedric Roussel headed in an early goal for Liège but the home side equalised through Brendon Santalab just before half-time. Two minutes before the end Portuguese star Sergio Conceiçao had a great opportunity to secure his side the UEFA Cup spot but fired wide from the penalty spot.
Genk, meanwhile, were 3-1 winners away at KSV Cercle Brugge, but left it very late to force the play-off. KSV went ahead through a 64th minute goal from Frederik Boi but Genk topscorer Kevin Vandenbergh equalised in the 86th minute after an assist from Koen Daerden, who himself scored one minute later. Faris Haroun sealed the win with a goal three minutes into added time. Details of the two-leg play-off will be confirmed on Monday. The first leg is scheduled to be played on Thursday with the second set for Sunday week.
Elsewhere champions Club Brugge KV, fielding an understrength side, lost 3-2 at K. Sint Truidense VV, Tamas Hajnal scoring twice. Second placed RSC Anderlecht won 2-1 at home against relegated RAEC Mons. League topscorer Nenad Jestrovic added another from the penalty spot to take his season total to 18. Aruna Dinane scored Anderlecht's other goal, but was also sent off.
K. Lierse SK secured the biggest win of the season defeating RAA Louviéroise 7-0, Laurent Delorge and Archie Thompson scoring twice. R. Excelsior Mouscron won 2-0 against FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek, R. Charleroi SC versus KSC Lokeren OV ended 2-1 and the match between KAA Gent and KVC Westerlo finished 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nordin Jbari. KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen won 3-1 against KSK Beveren, two goals coming from Jurgen Cavens.
