FC Dinamo Tbilisi are celebrating their 12th league title in Georgia after clinching the championship with a 3-0 final-day victory against FC Dinamo Batumi.

Melkadze again
Dinamo Tbilisi striker Levan Melkadze set the home side on their way with his 27th goal of the season in the 35th minute. Four minutes later, Vladimir Dvalishvili fired into the top corner to make it two before Georgi Chelidze sealed the win with an 89th-minute penalty. Dinamo coach Kakhaber Tskhadadze, the former Georgian international who only took charge of the team in March, said: "We worked hard and that is why we won." His side also competed in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup group stage.

Match abandoned
It is not yet known who will finish as runners-up as FC Torpedo Kutaisi, who began yesterday's proceedings two points behind the leaders, saw their match against FC Tbilisi abandoned in the 85th minute. Tbilisi, who themselves needed a victory to leapfrog their opponents into second, were trailing to a first-half header from David Gamerzadashvili when trouble broke out between rival players. The police were called, leaving the referee no choice but to call off the game.

Disappointing end
Elsewhere on the final day, Georgian Cup holders FC Lokomotiv Tbilisi were held to a goalless draw by visiting FC Dila Gori, who have long been relegated, while cup runners-up FC Zestaponi fell 3-1 at home to FC WIT Georgia. FC Kolkheti-1913 Poti, the other demoted team, signed off their campaign with a 3-0 home defeat by FC Sioni Bolnisi.
