Sweden round-up: Malmö keep title challenge on track

A 1-1 draw with Hammarby IF FF was enough to keep Malmö FF top of the Swedish first division.

Malmö FF retained top spot in the Swedish first division despite only managing a 1-1 draw with Hammarby IF FF on Saturday.

Home relief
Malmö, looking to win their first title since 1998, went behind to a Pablo Piñones goal just before half time and matters went from bad to worse when striker Peter Ijeh was sent off for a foul on Süleman Sleyman. Jörgen Ohlsson nevertheless secured a point after heading in a Joseph Elanga cross.

Örgryte slip up
Örgryte IS, however, remain second on goal difference after they were held to a 1-1 draw away by AIK Solna. The visitors were shocked by an Andreas Andersson own goal on the stroke of half-time but levelled from an Alfonso Alves free-kick after Teddy Lucic was sent off for a professional foul on Brazilian Paulinho.

Djurgarden in contention
Djurgårdens IF FF closed to within four points of the top two on Sunday with a 2-1 win against tenth-placed IFK Göteborg, who took the lead in the 57th minute through a Martin Ericsson free-kick. Babis Stefanidis levelled after a quickly-taken free-kick and when Göteborg’s Jimmy Svensson was sent off for arguing, Andreas Johansson ensured the advantage told when he slammed in six minutes from time.

Deserved leveller
Basement club Kalmar FF and Helsingborgs IF, in sixth spot, shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Midfield player Christoffer Andersson edged Helsingborg into the lead on 15 minutes, but Brazilian substitute Alysson struck a deserved equaliser.
