Burley takes helm at Hearts

Scotland's Heart of Midlothian FC have appointed George Burley as their new manager on a two-year contract.

Scottish club Heart of Midlothian FC have appointed George Burley as their new manager on a two-year contract.

'Outstanding track record'
Burley, who resigned his position in charge of English second division side Derby County FC earlier this summer, will take the helm on Friday. Hearts chairman George Foulkes said: "We are delighted to bring George to Hearts. His track record in management is outstanding and bringing him here is a significant coup."

Ipswich connection
The 49-year-old former Scottish international right-back made his name as a player then manager of Ipswich Town FC in England. His subsequent two-and-a-half year stint as Derby boss ended in defeat in their Premiership promotion play-off semi-final in May. Burley succeeds John Robertson to become Hearts's third manager in nine months.
