Switzerland round-up: Four-star Basel hit top gear

FC Basel cruised to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over visitors FC Aarau on Saturday.

FC Basel prepared for their UEFA Champions League debut with a comprehensive 4-0 Nationalliga A victory over visitors FC Aarau on Saturday.

Giménez double
Argentinean Christian Giménez found the net in the fourth and 54th minutes before Sébastien Barberis made it 3-0 midway through the second half and Murat Yakin completed the scoring deep into added time.

Richard's rescue
Richard Nunez salvaged a point for current leaders Grasshopper-Club after his side had gone a goal behind at FC Wil 1900. Nunez found the net in the 78th minute to cancel out debutant Bruno Sutter's 55th-minute strike for the hosts.

Flying Keita
FC Zürich moved up to third in the table with a 2-1 home victory over struggling FC St. Gallen, for whom defeat made it four games without a point. Alhassane Keita was the hosts' hero by netting in the 13th and 86th minutes after Alex Tachie-Mensah had put the visitors ahead on the half-hour mark.

Fonseca saviour
In the day's other games, Leandeo Fonseca rescued a point for Neuchâtel Xamax FC after Milaim Rama's goal had given FC Thun the lead, while FC Luzern were held to a goalless draw at home by Young Boys BSC.

Servette simmering
On Sunday, UEFA Cup hopefuls Servette FC got into gear with a 5-0 win over struggling SR Delémont. Despite the game being goalless at half-time, Servette showed their muscle after the break, with Goran Obradovic and Léonard Thurre both scoring twice.
