Odds BK are in the Norwegian Cup final for a record 20th time after a 2-0 victory at Stabæk IF sent them through to meet Vålerenga Fotball at Oslo's Ullevaal stadium on Sunday 3 November.
Martin Wiig put Odd ahead in their eighth minute after a superb start by the visitors, though for much of the rest of the first half Stabæk, inspired by their sensational 1-0 win at RSC Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup on Thursday, dominated play, going close several times.
Nornes clinches win
But Odd defended well, though, and midway through the second period centre-back Jan Frode Nornes clinched their piece of history, hoping for their 13th victory in the final, having clinched their unprecedented 12th in 2000, 69 years after their eleventh.
'A bit lucky'
Erik Holtan, the Odd captain and veteran goalkeeper, admitted after the win: "We were a bit lucky, maybe, but it is nice to be in a final again." Stabæks skipper Martin Andresen was philosophicaI, saying: "I thought we had enough chances to win, but did not have luck on our side - that's football."
