Yugoslav midfield player Predrag Djordjevic became the leading foreign goalscorer in the history of Olympiakos Piraeus FC when he struck the opener as the Athens giants cruised to a 4-0 victory over Akratitos FC on Saturday to stay top of the Hellenic National League.
Djordjevic’s free-kick on 25 minutes was his 65th goal for the Athens club, who doubled the lead on the 37th minute through Par Zetterberg. Giovanni da Silva was the next one to scoresheet, taking advantage of a perfect centre from Giorgos Amanatidis and Uruguayan substitute Neri Castillo rounded off proceedings with a fine strike.
AEK stay in touch
AEK Athens FC stayed on the shoulders of their city rivals with a 1-0 defeat of Xanthi FC, securing the points with an 11th minute goal from Demis Nikolaidis. Xanthi were despatched 4-0 by SS Lazio in the UEFA Cup last week and looked to be suffering the consequences of that defeat in Sunday’s game, Nikolaidis slotting in after a well-worked move between Vassilis Tsartas and Ilija Ivic.
Panathinaikos FC, who defeated Bulgarian side PFC Litex Lovech 1-0 in the UEFA Cup on Thursday, secured their first points of the season with another 1-0 win, this time beating Ionikos in Neapolis thanks to a 60th minute Angelos Bassinas penalty.
PAOK finally win in Crete
Panionios FC defeated Iraklis 3-1 with two strikes from Marian Lalik and a further header from Petr Vlcek while FC PAOK Thessaloniki overcame OFI Crete FC 2-3 in their first victory on the holiday island for 21 years thanks to strikes from Pantelis Kafes, Giannakis Okkas and Dimitris Salpingidis.
Elsewhere, Kallithea GS and Proodeftiki FC played out a 1-1 draw in a keenly-contested derby, last-placed Panahaiki FC fell 2-0 at home to Egaleo FC while Aris Thessaloniki FC sauntered to a trouble-free 2-0 defeat of PAS Giannina FC, who lost for the fourth time on the bounce.
