Miller seals return to Scotland

Transfer round-up: Ex-Rangers FC forward Kenny Miller is joining Celtic FC while VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and Wigan Athletic FC have been busy too.
Scottish international striker Kenny Miller has signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic FC. The 26-year-old's deal with English side Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is due to expire in the summer and Miller, who previously played for Celtic's Glasgow rivals Rangers FC, has agreed a three-year contract with the option of a further season at Parkhead. "I was fortunate enough to have a number of options," Miller said. "However, when Celtic made their interest known, this was where I wanted to play. It's a tremendous honour to sign for a club of Celtic's stature."

The Swedish champions Djurgårdens IF have completed the transfer of Brazilian striker Quirino on a four-year contract, paying €1.6m for the Under-21 international. The 21-year-old has been with Clube Atlético Mineiro in his homeland since 1998 and made his debut for their first team in 2003.

Bundesliga outfit VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed the signing of Danish defender Bo Svensson on a three-year deal starting this summer. The 26-year-old from FC København has now passed a medical.

Wigan Athletic FC have signed Blackburn Rovers FC midfielder David Thompson and Liverpool FC striker Neil Mellor until the end of the season. The 28-year-old Thompson, whose contract at Blackburn was due to expire in the summer, has started only two Premiership games this season following a series of knee injuries. The 23-year-old Mellor, meanwhile, has failed to break into the Liverpool side this term and joins Premiership newcomers Wigan on a four-month loan.

CF Os Belenenses have signed the former Portugal left-back Rui Jorge on an 18-month contract. The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Sporting Clube de Portugal at the end of last season.

In the Netherlands, NAC Breda have landed Belgian defender Timothy Derijck on loan from Feyenoord till the season's end. The 18-year-old signed for Erwin Koeman's team from RSC Anderlecht last summer, but has so far been limited to a solitary four-minute substitute cameo.

AEK Athens FC have acquired Greek Under-21 international Pantelis Kapetanos from Iraklis FC. The 22-year-old has agreed a five-year contract. "I am very happy - I am part of a great team with big ambitions." Kapetanos made his top-flight debut with Iraklis in September 2002 and has subsequently played 77 league matches, scoring ten goals.

Serbo-Montenegrin forward Igor Bogdanović has returned to Hungarian side Debreceni VSC on a six-month loan. The 31-year-old has failed to settle at Turkish club Gençlerbirliği SK following his September move away from the Oláh Gábor utcai stadium. Debrecen are a point off the leaders in the Hungarian title race.

Pacesetters Újpest TE, meanwhile, have secured the services of Hungary midfielder Ákos Füzi from Austrian Bundesliga strugglers VfB Admira Wacker Mödling. The 27-year-old, who has 12 international caps, has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal and joins just days after the arrival of Tibor Tisza.

Serbo-Montenegrin striker Ivica Jovanović has inked a two-and-a-half year contract with Belgian First Division side KSC Lokeren OV. The 18-year-old comes in from FK Timok after impressing on trial at Lokeren's Spanish training camp.

Croatian First League outfit NK Slaven Koprivnica have recruited F.Y.R. Macedonia goalkeeper Jane Nikoloski until the close of the campaign. The 32-year-old, who has 13 caps for his country, spent last season with Iranian club Persopolis.

Ukrainian midfielder Dema Kovalenko has returned to his homeland after 14 years in the United States, penning a one-year deal with the option of a further season with FC Metalurh Zaporizhya. The 28-year-old, a product of FC Dynamo Kyiv's youth academy, moved to the USA in 1992 and has subsequently played for DC United and Chicago Fire, with a six-month hiatus in Germany with FC St. Pauli in 2001/02.
