FC Groningen have appointed Ron Jans as their new coach after the departure of Dwight Lodeweges last week.

'Ambitious and enthusiastic'
Jans has agreed a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of next season after leaving his position as assistant coach of Eerste Divisie team Emmen. Groningen technical manager Henk Veldmate said: "Jans is a young, ambitious and enthusiastic guy. We are confident that he can get the players back on track."

Off the bottom
Groningen have taken just one point from their opening eight Eredivisie matches this season. The club hope Jans, who played for the club in the 1980s, will lift them off the bottom off the table starting with the visit of Feyenoord next Monday. Their game against RBC Roosendaal was postponed yesterday due to heavy winds.
