Vintage Porto secure title triumph

Adriano scored the only goal of the game as FC Porto defeated bottom side FC Penafiel to claim their 21st Portuguese Liga title with two games to spare.

FC Porto secured their 21st Portuguese Liga title with two games to spare after completing a 1-0 win against already-relegated FC Penafiel.

Total domination
In a match completely dominated by Co Adriaanse's men, Penafiel had their goalkeeper Nuno Santos to thank for preventing a more emphatic scoreline. After a goalless first half, in which Jorginho and Benni McCarthy both struck the post, Adriano scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, following a foul by Nuno Diogo on Ibson Barreto.

Premature celebrations
Porto were on the verge of completing their eight consecutive victory without conceding a goal when celebrations began prematurely and the pitch was invaded by jubilant fans with just a minute of normal time remaining. The match official was forced to halt proceedings for 20 minutes but Porto would not be denied their third title in four years, and are now in line for a league and cup double. They play holders Vitória FC in the Portuguese Cup final on 14 May.
