RSC Anderlecht have agreed a deal to bring Egyptian international midfielder Ahmed Hassan to the club on a free transfer from Turkish side Beşiktaş JK.

Zetterberg successor
The 31-year-old will take over from Swedish veteran Pär Zetterberg, who has hung up his boots to end a 15-year playing career with the Brussels club although he will remain in a behind-the-scenes role. Hassan won the African Cup of Nations with Egypt earlier this season and was named Player of the Tournament.

Official announcement
He will be officially presented to the press on Wednesday, at which time the length of his contract at the club will be confirmed. Hassan, who has won 119 international caps, has been at Beşiktaş since the start of the 2003/04 season having previously played for Kocaelispor, Denizlispor and Gençlerbirliği SK. Belgian champions Anderlecht will compete in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League, starting their campaign in the group stage.
