VfL Wolfsburg have handed Argentinian striker Diego Klimowicz a new contract until summer 2008. The 31-year-old's existing deal had been due to expire at the end of the 2006/07 campaign. Klimowicz has scored 51 times in 128 Bundesliga appearances, having joined Wolfsburg from CA Lanús in his homeland midway through the 2001/02 season.
Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg have signed midfielder Marco Engelhardt from relegated 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The 25-year-old, who has inked a contract until 2010, will be unavailable to his new club for several months while he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury.
NAC Breda have appointed Ernie Brandts as coach. The 50-year-old joins from second division FC Volendam, whom he led to a third-placed finish last season. The 28-times Dutch international defender has signed a two-year contract. He won the UEFA Cup as a player with PSV Eindhoven in 1978 and subsequently worked at the club as a youth-team coach and assistant coach.
Gil Vicente FC have signed midfielder João Vilela on a permanent basis from SL Benfica after a successful loan last season. The 20-year-old made seven Liga appearances for the Barcelos team in the 2005/06 campaign, although he did not make a single start. "Gil Vicente is the ideal club to launch my career," he said after agreeing a three-year contract.
French club FC Lorient have landed the Cameroon defender Armand Deumi Tchami for an undisclosed fee from Swiss team FC Thun. The 27-year-old, who played in the UEFA Champions League with Thun last term, has signed a two-year contract. Deumi, previously at FC Sion, made 107 league appearances for Thun over four seasons.
Dutch team Willem II have landed Sierra Leone international Ibrahim Kargbo from FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek. The 24-year-old defender joins on a three-year deal with the option of another two seasons. His previous teams include R. Charleroi SC in Belgium and Turkey's Malatyaspor. Willem II have also welcomed 22-year-old midfielder Mohamed Messoudi to the club, with the Moroccan-born player arriving from KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen on a three-year contract.
Feyenoord youth coach Igor Korneev is to leave the Rotterdam side to become Guus Hiddink's assistant with the Russia national team. The 38-year-old will sign an initial two-year contract with the Football Union of Russia and his duties may also extend to the country's Under-21 squad. "While I was very much at home at Feyenoord, I want to develop as a coach," said the former Feyenoord, SC Heerenveen and NAC Breda player.
ADO Den Haag have signed Danish attacking midfielder Jesper Håkansson on a free transfer after he was released by Swedish side Djurgårdens IF. The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the option of another 12 months. Håkansson previously played in the Eredivisie with SC Heerenveen between 1999 and 2005, including loan spells with RBC Roosendaal and Danish club Viborg FF.
Franck Ribéry said from France's FIFA World Cup base today that he hopes to join Olympique Lyonnais from Olympique de Marseille. "I wish to stay in France for another two or three years, and Lyon is the ideal choice for me and my family," said the 23-year-old midfielder, who has reportedly received offers from several foreign clubs including Manchester United FC.
Polish outfit MKS Pogon Szczecin have announced the acquisition of seven Brazilian players. The arrivals are defenders Anderson Santos da Silva and Genivaldo Souza, midfielders Inácio Gonçalves Ferreira Junior, Mário Sérgio Silverio and Watinei César Moreira dos Santos, as well as forwards Danilo Carino de Oliveira and Ederson Luis Lopes. In addition, midfielder Tomasz Parzy has returned to Pogon after six months on loan at Arka Gdynia. The latter club have taken defender Tomasz Wacek on a two-year contract from MKS Cracovia SSA.
