Greece round-up: Thriller takes PAOK top

FC PAOK Thessaloniki took over at the top after a 4-3 win against AEK Athens FC at the weekend.

FC PAOK Thessaloniki took over the lead in the Hellenic National League lead after a thrilling 4-3 win at AEK Athens FC in the match of the season so far.

Early goals seal game
Nikos Froussos, Giannakis Okkas and Vangelis Nastos shook AEK by putting the visitors 3-0 up in the first 29 minutes, but the home team pulled two back before the break with a spectacular scissors kick from by Kostas Katsouranis and Demis Nikolaidis's penalty. However, Okkas scored his second goal on the hour to double PAOK's advantage, ensuring Vassilis Borbokis's effort 13 minutes from time proved only a consolation.

Former leaders held
Olympiakos Piraeus FC conceded first place as they were held 0-0 at Aris Thessaloniki FC. Despite the scoreline, it was a lively game, with the home team on top in the first half and unbeaten Olympiakos having the best of the second period but proving unable to find the goal that would have prevented them falling to third place.

Stoltidis goal
Iraklis FC ended the weekend in second - on goal difference only - thanks to a 1-0 win against Proodeftiki FC. Ieroklis Stoltidis headed the only goal on 19 minutes to ensure Iraklis overtook Olympiakos and moved level on points with PAOK.

Bassinas free-kick
Panathinaikos FC are fourth, but only two points off the lead, as their improvement in form continue with a 1-0 victory at home to PAS Giannina FC. Angelos Bassinas's 45th-minute free-kick sealed the win, with the home side well on top throughout the match as they remain unbeaten since 15 September.

Labriakos hat-trick
Xanthi FC kept in touch with the leading teams courtesy of a 5-0 win against Egaleo FC. Dimitris Zografakis got the opener with a close-range shot on 26 minutes, but it was Stavros Labriakos who then took over as he scored twice before the break and once afterwards to seal the game with a hat-trick. His substitute, Austrian Guenther Friesenbichler, then made it 5-0 in the 88th minute. Xanthi are eighth but four points behind the leaders.

Derby draw
Elsewhere, bottom-placed Panahaiki FC lost 3-0 at OFI Crete FC, Kallithea GS and Panionios FC drew their derby 1-1, the same score as in the game at Ionikos FC, where Akratitos FC were reduced to ten men with Stathis Stefanidis's sending-off but levelled five minutes from the end through substitute Lefteris Velentzas.
