Internazionale FC striker Christian Vieri is likely to be sidelined until after the winter break with a thigh injury.
The Italian international limped off after 73 minutes of Inter's 3-2 victory against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. A scan has confirmed the damage to his left thigh, a similar problem to one he sustained in the 1999/00 season which kept him out for 172 days. However, the current injury seems less serious and the striker will probably only miss Inter's home match against Atalanta BC and the trip to Parma AC on December 22.
Vieri is the leading scorer in Serie A with 12 goals in 13 matches so far this term. He is also Italy's best marksman over the entire year with 23 goals in 2002, six more than Juventus FC's Alessandro Del Piero.
The Nerazzurri striker has been in sensational form and scored all four goals in Inter's 4-0 win over Brescia Calcio ten days ago. Inter are currently third in Serie A, two points behind leaders and city rivals AC Milan.
