Precious points for Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos FC took the points in the derby against Olympiacos CFP and have moved to within just two points of their rivals at the top of the Greek Super League.

Panathinaikos FC took the points in today's derby against leaders Olympiacos CFP and have moved to within just two points of their rivals at the top of the Greek Super League.

Own goal
The only goal came in the 49th minute, when visiting defender Athanasios Kostoulas put through his own net as he tried to clear a cross from Panathinaikos forward Víctor Sánchez. It was a night of mixed emotion for the Spaniard as he was sent off in added time for a second yellow card. Olympiacos could have earned a draw in the dying seconds as well only for Pierre Ebede in the Panathinaikos goal to save well from Ioannis Okkas.

Good comeback
Third-placed AEK Athens FC are also back in contention at the top, and are just a further point adrift of the leaders thanks to their 3-1 victory at FC Aris Thessaloniki. The home side took an early lead but AEK, fresh from their midweek UEFA Champions League heroics against LOSC Lille Métropole, roared back for victory thanks to unanswered goals from Nikolaos Liberopoulos, Júlio César and Leonidas Kabantais.
