Spain round-up: Madrid move up to second

Real Madrid CF climbed to second place in the Spanish Primera División with a 3-0 defeat of Sevilla FC.

Real Madrid CF moved up to second place in the Spanish Primera División with a 3-0 victory over Sevilla FC at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium last night.

Raúl opener
Raúl González put Madrid ahead on nine minutes with a near-post header from Luis Figo's cross, and Flavio Conceição doubled the advantage on the half-hour with a first-time shot from the edge of the box.

Fourth straight win
Sevilla centre-back Javi Navarro was sent off early in the second half for a foul on world and European Footballer of the Year Ronaldo, and a Zinedine Zidane strike on 74 minutes secured a fourth successive win for Vicente del Bosque's side.

Five-point gap
After 15 games, Real Sociedad lead the standings on 35 points, with Madrid now five points behind in second place. Valencia CF, who take on Madrid at the Bernabéu on Sunday, are third on 28.
