Polish midfield player Piotr Swierczewski has joined Birmingham City FC on loan from French side Olympique de Marseille.
The 30-year-old, who has won 68 caps for his country, has joined the Premiership club until the end of the season. Birmingham have the option to sign him on a three-year contract in the summer if Swierczewski prospers in England.
One of Poland's most experienced footballers, Swierczewski will join his international team-mate Jerzy Dudek in England. The goalkeeper is currently at Liverpool FC, and the two players saw action together in Poland's 2002 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Swierczewski started his career in his native country before moving from GKS Katowice to French side AS Saint-Etienne at the start of the 1993/94 season. After two successful campaigns he moved to SC Bastia, where he spent a further six years which included a brief spell on loan at Japanese side Gamba Osaka, before joining Marseille last season.
