R. Charleroi SC coach Jacky Mathijssen has agreed to take charge of Belgian giants Club Brugge KV this summer.
The 43-year-old has signed a three-year deal starting on 1 July and will succeed Cedomir Janevski, who himself replaced Emilio Ferrera in January and has been asked to stay on as Mathijssen's assistant. Mathijssen has led Charleroi to fifth place in the league this season with 48 points from 30 games, one point more than his future employers.
'My character fits'
"I hope to be able to show people here, very early next season, that I am ready for this job and that my character fits this club perfectly," said former goalkeeper Mathijssen, who started coaching at K. Sint-Truidense VV in 2001 after a playing career with Charleroi, KRC Genk and Sint-Truiden. He steered the latter team to the Belgian Cup final and fourth position in the first division in 2003, before departing for Charleroi at the end of the following campaign. Under Mathijssen, Charleroi have finished fifth and eleventh in the standings.
