Panathinaikos FC remain top of the Hellenic National League after beating AEK Athens FC in an exciting derby encounter.

Penalty winner
Home side Panathinaikos took the lead on the 33rd minute, after Emmanuel Olisadebe and Nikos Lyberopoulos combined for the latter to shoot past AEK goalkeeper Chrysostomos Michailidis, in for the injured Dionyssis Hiotis. Four minutes later, AEK equalised through a long range shot by Christos Maladenis but Panathinaikos sealed the win with an Angelos Bassinas penalty after Joonas Kolkka was brought down by Nikos Georgeas 19 minutes from time. AEK's Dimitris Nalitzis was sent off in added time.

New coach starts well
Olympiakos Piraeus FC are within two points of the leaders following a 2-1 win against Iraklis FC in their first match under new coach Oleg Protassov, who succeeded Srecko Katanec on Friday. The home side, playing the game at Akratitos FC's Giannis Pathiakakis stadium due to renovation work their Rizoupoli stadium took the lead though Predrag Djordjevic on 36 minutes and Lambros Houtos secured the victory eleven minutes from time with a header.

Close race
Third-placed FC PAOK Thessaloniki stayed within sight of the top two after coming from behind to beat Kallithea GS 2-1. Kallithea led on eleven minutes after Fanis Gekas's close range goal. But, in the 22nd minute, Pantelis Kafes equalised and within 60 seconds Giannakis Okkas shot past Kallithea goalkeeper Giorgos Souloganis and defender Giorgos Koutsoupias, while trying to prevent the goal, pushed the ball into the net.

Bottom side beaten
Panionios FC moved up to fourth place with their sixth win in seven games, a 2-0 victory at bottom-placed Panahaiki FC. On 44 minutes, Akis Mantzios's shot on goal found team-mate's Ermin Siliak's leg and changed direction, beating Panahaiki goalkeeper Giannis Baltimas. Erol Bulutsecured the win after half time with a free-kick.

Niren double
Aris Thessaloniki FC, in sixth, overcame Egaleo FC 2-1 thanks to a double from Debah Niren, while Xanthi FC remain close behind after beating Proodeftiki FC, Thanassis Prittas scoring eight minutes from time. Elsewhere, Akratitos FC remain in relegation danger after losing 2-0 at OFI Crete FC, while Ionikos FC beat fellow strugglers PAS Giannina FC 2-0.
