Rangers finally land Darcheville

Rangers FC have signed Jean-Claude Darcheville from FC Girondins de Bordeaux on a two-year contract after being linked with the French striker last season.

Scottish Premier League side Rangers FC have signed Jean-Claude Darcheville from FC Girondins de Bordeaux on a two-year deal after being linked with the striker last season.

UEFA Cup bid
The 31-year-old was expected to move to Ibrox in the January 2006 transfer window after holding talks but an offer never materialised. However, Rangers have drafted in Darcheville for next season's UEFA Cup campaign after he featured for Bordeaux in this year's UEFA Champions League.

English experience
Darcheville joined Bordeaux in 2002/03 and has made 131 appearances for the west-coast club, scoring 37 goals, but his contract there expires this summer. The Guyana-born forward previously played for Stade Rennais FC, Nottingham Forest FC and FC Lorient. Rangers manager Walter Smith, who has been looking for replacements for the outgoing Dado Pršo, said: "There were a number of clubs interested in him and Bordeaux wanted him to sign a new deal, so we are pleased we will have his talents for the next two seasons."
