Manchester United FC have announced the signing of England midfielder Owen Hargreaves from FC Bayern München, having revealed last night that FC Porto playmaker Anderson and Sporting Clube de Portugal winger Nani are also close to joining the Premier League champions.
'Agreed terms with Bayern'
Hargreaves, 26, will complete his long-speculated transfer to Old Trafford on 1 July. "Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with FC Bayern München for the transfer of Owen Hargreaves," a United statement said. "The player has also agreed terms with the club and passed his medical." The Canadian-born player will bring to an end his seven-season stay in Germany, having made 145 Bundesliga appearances and won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern in 2001.
United also said yesterday they had agreed "in principle" the acquisition of both Anderson and Nani. "Terms are agreed with both players and an announcement will take place once a medical and other procedures are done." Anderson, who arrived at Porto from Grêmio FBPA in December 2005, made only 15 Liga appearances for the Portuguese champions in 2006/07, being sidelined for six months with a broken leg. The 19-year-old is in the Brazil squad for the Copa América in Venezuela next month. Nani, meanwhile, is considered one of Portugal's brightest talents, having helped Sporting to second place in the championship and a Portuguese Cup success. The 20-year-old winger, who has been capped five times, has played 58 league games over the last two campaigns with Sporting following his emergence from their academy.
