Villarreal CF have added another new recruit to their rearguard in the shape of Real Madrid CF reserve goalkeeper Diego López for a reported €6m fee.
The 25-year-old has been Iker Casillas's understudy at the Santiago Bernabéu for the past two seasons since being promoted from the capital club's B team. First-team opportunities have been few and far between with only four Copa del Rey games and one run-out in the UEFA Champions League group stage to show for the 2006/07 campaign. Diego López's two Primera División appearances for Madrid both came in the 2005/06 season but he will hope for more opportunities at UEFA Cup contenders Villarreal, who have also signed defenders Joan Capdevila and Roberto Ayala.
