FC Barcelona have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Olympique Lyonnais to sign French international left-back Eric Abidal for a reported fee of €15m.

Third signing
Club president Joan Laporta revealed that Abidal will become the club's third signing of the summer, following striker Thierry Henry and midfielder Yaya Touré, who joined earlier in the week from Arsenal FC and AS Monaco FC respectively. The 27-year-old Abidal, who has won Ligue 1 titles in each of the last three seasons with Lyon since joining from LOSC Lille Métropole in summer 2004 and has won 24 caps for France, is expected to be officially unveiled as a Barça player on Friday.

'Happy to be here'
"The negotiations have been long but now it's done and I'm very happy to play for Barcelona," Abidal told the club's official television channel after landing at the airport today to conclude negotiations. He is expected to sign a four-year deal upon the successful completion of his medical tests.
