France round-up: PSG humble Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain FC thwarted Olympique de Marseille's bid to go top with a 3-0 win at the Stade Vélodrome.

Paris Saint-Germain FC completed the league double over Olympique de Marseille and thwarted their rivals' attempt to go top of Ligue 1 with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday.

Leroy opener
Inspired by a fabulous performance from Ronaldinho, PSG took the lead through Jérôme Leroy as his angled shot from the right corner of the area in the 26th minute silenced the partisan 60,000-strong home support.

Ronaldinho on target
Marseille coach Alain Perrin had announced before the game he had a plan to counter Ronaldinho, but it did not show on the pitch as the Brazilian international shone throughout. A blunder by Marseille captain Frank Leboeuf allowed him to break away on his own and beat Vedran Runje in the 55th minute.

Marseille pain
Leroy added his second of the evening five minutes from time to make sure of the points and secure PSG's first win in Marseille for 15 years. The defeat was all the more painful for Marseille as they would have moved back to the top of the table, three points clear of AS Monaco FC, had they won.
