Guingamp capture teenage prospect

En Avant Guingamp have signed the 18-year-old striker Mathias Vitkievicz from Servette FC.

UEFA Intertoto Cup entrants En Avant Guingamp have signed the highly regarded 18-year-old striker Mathias Vitkievicz from Servette FC.

Two-year deal
Vitkievicz, who holds dual Swiss and Uruguayan nationality, came to the attention of French clubs during his loan spell with third division CS Louhans-Cuiseaux this season. Guingamp won the race for his signature and have agreed a two-year deal with the player, having also added forward Nicolas Goussé to their squad.

European ambitions
Guingamp, who entered the UEFA Cup for the only time in 1996/97 after qualification through the Intertoto Cup, gained a return to the latter competition after finishing seventh in Ligue 1, ending with an impressive 4-1 win at champions Olympique Lyonnais. Their coach, Bertrand Marchand, this month agreed a new two-year contract.
