Spain round-up: Deportivo finish with a win

Roy Makaay's 29th goal of the season helped RC Deportivo La Coruña end the season with a 2-1 win.

Roy Makaay's 29th goal of the season helped RC Deportivo La Coruña recover from a goal down to defeat RCD Espanyol 2-1 in the Primera División on Saturday night.

Early setback
The result meant that Deportivo finished the league season with a victory that had initially looked unlikely as Roger's strike gave the away side an unexpected lead after 13 minutes.

Makaay proves decisive
Deportivo struggled to find a way back into the match, but Makaay eventually equalised in the 74th minute, bundling in with his chest after a defensive clearance had been blocked. A minute later, the Dutch striker created what proved to be the winning goal for Albert Luque, crossing for his strike partner to score at the far post. Deportivo finished third in the final table, and earned a place in the third qualifying round of next season's UEFA Champions League.

Consolation win
Deposed champions Valencia CF, who were already assured of fifth position and a place in the UEFA Cup, ended with a 3-0 win away to Sevilla FC. Argentinian playmaker Pablo Aimar opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and striker Juan Sánchez doubled the lead nine minutes later, before effectively ending the game as a contest eight minutes after half-time with a third goal.

Relegated sides draw
At the other end of the table, Rayo Vallecano finished bottom of the table after ending the season with a 0–0 draw at home to another relegated team, RC Recreativo de Huelva, while the third demoted side, Deportivo Alavés, also ended with a draw, 1-1 at home to Real Valladolid. David Aganzo gave the away side the lead eight minutes before half-time, but Pablo's strike a minute before the hour gave Alavés a draw.

Late winner
Elsewhere, two Javi Guerrero goals were not enough for Real Racing Club Santander, as strikes from Iñaki Muñoz, Gorka Brit and John Aloisi earned Club Atlético Osasuna a 3-2 away victory, while Tuni's strike two minutes into stoppage time gave RCD Mallorca a 1-0 win against Málaga CF.

Title to be decided
The league title will be decided on Sunday when Real Madrid CF, who have a two-point advantage at the top, play at home to Athletic Club Bilbao, while second-placed Real Sociedad face Club Atlético de Madrid. RC Celta de Vigo visit FC Barcelona, and Real Betis Balompié travel to Villarreal CF.
