Ricken announces retirement

Former Germany midfielder Lars Ricken has retired aged 32 after spending his entire career with BV Borussia Dortmund, the highlight of which was a goal in the 1997 UEFA Champions League final victory against Juventus.

Lars Ricken, who scored a memorable goal to help BV Borussia Dortmund beat Juventus 3-1 in the 1997 UEFA Champions League final, has retired aged 32.

Three titles
The midfielder was capped 16 times by Germany and spent his entire club career with Dortmund, scoring 49 goals in 301 top-flight games and winning three Bundesliga titles. "Even though I feel OK, I think it's a good time to end competitive sports after 15 years as a professional," said Ricken, who has spent the last couple of seasons in Dortmund's reserves.
