FC Zenit St. Petersburg have added to their squad ahead of the 2010 Premier-Liga season by signing their former striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov on a four-year contract from FC Dinamo Moskva.
The 27-year-old became Zenit's most prolific top-flight scorer with 64 league goals in 159 matches between 2001 and 2006, a record which still stands. In December 2006 Kerzhakov moved to Sevilla FC in a reported €5m deal, winning the UEFA Cup the following May, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He returned to Russia in 2008 when he joined Dinamo, scoring 19 goals in 51 league games. Capped 50 times by Russia, Kerzhakov was under contract for another year with the capital club.
Zenit had a mixed 2009 season, losing in the UEFA Europa League play-offs to CD Nacional but recovering to finish third in the league and earn a 2010/11 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round slot. Uruguay forward Luis Aguiar has also left Dinamo for his former club, the 24-year-old signing on loan with Portugal's SC Braga until the summer.
