Cyprus round-up: AEK sink Ashias

AEK Larnaca FC finished off on a high with a 6-3 victory over relegated Ethnikos Ashias FC.

After yesterday's celebrations, two games were played today in Cyprus which barely had an impact on the final league table.

Little difference
AEK Larnaca FC finished off on a high with a 6-3 victory over relegated Ethnikos Ashias FC while Olympiakos Nicosia FC saw off Alki FC 2-0 in the Cypriot capital. It made little difference to the standings though after APOEL Nicosia FC took the championship, and a UEFA Champions League place, and Anorthosis Famagusta FC finished runners-up and booked a UEFA Cup slot yesterday.

Kitanov hat trick
For AEK's final match, Boban Kitanov struck a sweet hat-trick to finish as the club's second top scorer with the other goals coming from Louis Eleftheriou, who is AEK's top scorer, Kokos Elias and an own goal from Sinisa Jovanovic. Ashias had actually held a two-goal lead thanks to great strikes from Koullis Pavlides, who went on to score another goal early in the second half, and Deboijsa Pladenovic.

Olympiakos triumph
Elsewhere, Olympiakos got revenge on the Alki, the side which defeated them 3-2 on the opening day of the season, by defeating them 2-0 in Nicosia. First-half goals from Savvas Tsiakklis and Armenian international Romik Kachandryan were enough to lift the Nicosia club into sixth place in the final league standings.
