Germany round-up: Freiburg grab survival lifeline

SC Freiburg grabbed three precious points with a 3-1 victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday.

SC Freiburg grabbed three precious points in their bid to secure 1. Bundesliga football next season with a 3-1 victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday.

Spot-kick slotted
After a goalless first half, Georgian international Levan Kobiashvili was fouled in the Kaiserslautern penalty area and got to his feet to slot in the 47th-minute spot-kick himself.

Sellimi on target
Adel Sellimi doubled the advantage 12 minutes from time, finding himself unmarked nine metres out to convert a right-wing cross by Abder Ramdane. Three minutes later, Jan Manner made the game safe, tapping in from close range after his initial header had been saved by Georg Koch.

Tight at the bottom
Miroslav Klose's 85th-minute penalty came far too late for Kaiserslautern, but the result left Freiburg a point behind fourth-bottom 1. FC Nürnberg with just two games left to play.

Saviour Dundee
Elsewhere, Sean Dundee's 84th-minute goal rescued a point for VfB Stuttgart in their away game against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Second-half goals
His side had taken the lead through Krassimir Balakov's 48th-minute goal, but Mönchengladbach equalised 20 minutes later through Peter van Houdt and looked to have sewn up the points when they went ahead through Benjamin Auer's strike ten minutes from time.
