Wesley Sonck scored an astonishing six goals as KRC Genk swept aside KV Mechelen 9-0 on Sunday.

KRC Genk's Wesley Sonck scored an astonishing six goals as his side crushed Eerste Klasse opponents KV Mechelen 9-0 on Sunday.

Genk go fourth
Kevin Vandenbergh's hat-trick for Genk was ousted from the spotlight by Sonck's achievement as Genk rose to fourth in the table.

Leaders pull away
Club Brugge KV stretched their lead at the top of the Eerste Klasse to seven points after defeating their nearest rivals K. Lierse SK 3-0 at the Jan Breydelstadion. Goals from Sandy Martens and Anders Mendoza, as well as a Timmy Simons penalty, did the damage for the leaders, who were further boosted by news of high-flying Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan's 2-0 defeat at the hands of RSC Anderlecht, for whom Gilles De Bilde and Nenad Jestrovic were on target.

Quansah hat-trick
KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen brushed aside the challenge of home side R. Charleroi SC, running out 6-1 winners at the Communal stadium. The hosts had scored first through Gregory Dufer, but the Antwerp side soon took command, with Kwame Quansah responsible for half of their six-goal haul. Cédric Roussel also scored a hat-trick as he ensured R. AEC Mons enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over K. Sint Truidense VV, who had Dalibor Mitrovic sent off eight minutes from time.

Sergeant at the double
Elsewhere, R. Antwerp FC raced in to an early lead through Tony Sergeant's quickfire double as they set about recording a 2-1 win over RAA Louviéroise, for whom Patrick Goots scored a consolation goal. Ole Martin Årst scored twice as R. Standard de Liège chalked up a 3-0 victory against KVC Westerlo, who had Mario Verheyen sent off after 70 minutes.

Two for Kraouche
KAA Gent overcame KSK Beveren by the odd goal in three thanks to a double from Morocco captain Nasredine Kraouche. Marcin Zewlakow also grabbed two goals as R. Excelsior Mouscron beat KFC Lommelse SK 2-0.
