Alfonso agony goes on

Real Betis Balompié striker Alfonso Pérez will be out until March following achilles tendon surgery.

Future imperfect
Alfonso will spend a fortnight in plaster after the surgery tomorrow, and is expected to be out of action for at least five weeks. The 30-year-old, who is on a season's loan from FC Barcelona, has not played for a month and his continued absence has raised doubts about his chances of securing a permanent transfer to the Seville club in the summer.

Limited appearances
The former Real Madrid CF forward, who is in his second spell with Betis, has made just eleven appearances this term, scoring five times. He was forced to rest the same injury earlier in the campaign but returned to register Betis's goal in the 2-1 aggregate defeat by French side AJ Auxerre in the UEFA Cup third round in November.
