Vermezovic delight at 'dream job'

Vladimir Vermezovic has been named as the new coach of Serbo-Montenegrin champions FK Partizan.

Club loyalist Vladimir Vermezovic has been named as the new coach of Serbo-Montenegrin champions FK Partizan. He replaces former German international Lothar Matthäus who left at the end of last year to take over the Hungary national team.

'Huge motivation'
The 41-year-old Vermezovic has signed a contract that runs until the end of the season. "When we could not bring in a world-famous name, we decided to rely on our own resources," said Partizan director Nenad Bjekovic. "Vermezovic has spent 25 years at Partizan, he knows the job and has huge motivation."

'Dream come true'
"You don't get the chance to coach Partizan every day," Vermezovic said. "I have prepared for this position for a whole decade. It is a dream come true. I know what I am expected to do - win the title and cup and try again in the UEFA Champions League next season."

Vermezovic career
Vermezovic started his career with Partizan as a player, making 346 appearances before finishing his career with German side Hannover 96. He was also capped twice for Yugoslavia. His coaching career began with Partizan's youth teams and he was assistant coach to Ljubisa Tumbakovic from 2000 to 2002.
