PSG part company with Halilhodzic

Paris Saint-Germain FC have announced the departure of coach Vahid Halilhodzic with the club 12th in Ligue 1.

Fate sealed
PSG had already departed European competition in December after finishing fourth in their UEFA Champions League group and Sunday's 2-0 home loss to RC Lens, their seventh league defeat this season, sealed the 52-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovnian's fate. Halilhodzic was appointed in summer 2003 and had been contracted until June 2007.

Club statement
A club statement read: "Tonight PSG have put an end to Vahid Halilhodzic's contract," going on to confirm that a press conference will be held at 10.00CET on Wednesday, when a new coaching team is likely to be announced. The immediate aim for the new regime will be to secure European competition in 2005/06, with the French Cup - won last season under Halilhodzic - presenting the best chance.
