Article summary
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed the six-week suspension imposed on AS Roma's Philippe Mexes.
Article body
Clause cited
World football's governing body had suspended the French international after Mexes agreed a four-year deal with Roma while still under contract at AJ Auxerre. Mexes claimed he was able to move for €4m citing a clause in his Auxerre contract, but that argument was disputed by the French club.
Further examination
His case was referred to FIFA, who gave the transfer international clearance but banned Mexes for unilateral breach of contract. The CAS temporarily cancelled the suspension in order to examine the case further. Upon doing so, it has decided to uphold the ban, meaning the 22-year-old will be unavailable for Roma for six weeks starting from this weekend.
