Hiddink to part company with PSV

Guus Hiddink has confirmed that he will leave PSV Eindhoven in the summer.

The 59-year-old coach announced his decision after training today, although he added he did not yet know where he would be working next season. He will lead Australia at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, having taken charge of that nation last July before their qualification for the finals. His contract at PSV was due to run until 2007, meaning any new employer would have to pay compensation.

'Beautiful period'
Hiddink, who has been linked with the England, Russia and South Africa jobs, said: "It has been a beautiful four years, in which we have had a lot of success, and we want to add one or two more this season. But all things come to an end." Regarding his future, he added: "About my future nothing is concrete at the moment but some contacts have been made."

Plenty of success
Hiddink, who won the 1988 European Champion Clubs' Cup with PSV, returned to Eindhoven in summer 2002 after guiding the Korean Republic to the semi-finals of that year's World Cup. He helped PSV to the Dutch double last season as well as to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. They are top of the Eredivisie this term but failed to get beyond the first knockout round in Europe's premier club competition.

High praise
PSV chairman Rob Westerhof said: "Guus is not only PSV's most successful coach, but also one of Dutch football's. It would have helped the club if he had stayed in the way [Sir] Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger have stayed for years at Manchester United [FC] and Arsenal [FC]."
