English international midfielder Joe Cole has signed a new four-year contract with Chelsea FC, committing himself to the Premiership champions until 2010.

Key figure
Peripheral in his first season at Stamford Bridge, the 24-year-old has cemented a place in José Mourinho's starting lineup over the past two campaigns, going some way towards repaying the €9.3m Chelsea paid West Ham United FC for his services in 2003. Cole has already made close to 100 league appearances for the west London side, helping them to consecutive league titles and playing a key role in their last two UEFA Champions League runs before defeat by eventual winners Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona respectively.

England duty
Chelsea have secured his services for four more years, with the Islington-born winger finalising his new deal while on international duty with England at the FIFA World Cup. Unused at UEFA EURO 2004™, Cole started Sven-Göran Eriksson's side's Group B victory against Paraguay on Saturday.
